Hello, I'm Alicia, but you can call me Alice
Born on the outskirts of Barcelona, Spain, I grew up twenty minutes from the iconic Sagrada Familia, immersed in stories, myths, and the eerie landscapes of imagination.
I hold a degree in English Philology from the Universitat de Barcelona (2008) and a Master’s in Jungian Psychology from Universidad de Nebrija (2024). I have also completed specialist training in Jungian studies through the Centre for Applied Jungian Studies and I am currently completing further studies in grief and depth psychology.
I am an essayist and independent researcher exploring the relationship between culture, symbolism, and the human psyche. My work investigates how human beings give symbolic form to the deepest questions of existence: loss, identity, transformation, belonging, fear, and the search for meaning.
Gothic literature is one of my main fields of exploration, not only as a literary genre, but as a symbolic language that reveals the hidden tensions of individuals and societies. Through Gothic narratives, mythology, art, and depth psychology, I explore the ways in which stories become mirrors of our inner and collective worlds.
For over twenty years, I worked as an English teacher, running my own academy for ten years. This background continues to influence my research, especially my interest in how stories shape learning, identity, and our understanding of ourselves and others.
My academic contributions include essays for forthcoming collections:
- Women in Supernatural,Critical Essays – The Misunderstood Role of Mary Winchester as a Fragmented Self. McFarland
- Horror and Mother/hoods in Global Cultural Imaginaries: Representations Across Literature, Film, Television, and Art – The Monstrous Mother: A Personal Journey through Motherhood, Loss, and the Psychological Haunting under the Gothic-Jungian Lens. Demeter Press - Horror and Rewilding – Descent to the Great Mother Achetype: an Exploration of the Human Psyche in the TV series "Dark". Edited by Simon Bacon
I’ve co-authored Diario para madres escritoras II: Un nuevo comienzo and contributed to seminars exploring the Great Mother archetype, Gothic symbolism, the ghostly, and the second language learning through the Gothic .
I am currently writing my first solo Gothic novel and developing The Gothic Descent, an independent research and editorial project exploring how cultural expressions respond to the existential questions of their time.
Medium is my public notebook: a place to develop ideas, connect disciplines, and engage in conversations with writers, artists, researchers, and readers who are interested in the symbolic life of culture.
If you are fascinated by literature, mythology, psychology, and the hidden meanings within the stories we create, welcome.
